Abstract

Antimicrobial agents are one of the most frequently used, and often misused drugs, emerging the drug-resistant bacteria worldwide. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health crisis, leading to multidrug-resistant, pandrug-resistant, or extensive drug-resistant bacterial infections. Lack of sanitation, clean water, and inadequate infection prevention also facilitate the spread of antibiotic resistant microbes. World Health Organization has declared AMR as one of the top 10 public health crisis. The AMR has steered the cases of death and disability, prolonged illness, and the need for expensive medications. Furthermore, the success of modern medicine in the treatment of infections during major surgery is at risk due to the lack of new generation of antimicrobials.
