Abstract

This chapter describes the conceptual design activities in the product development process and their implementation performed while keeping sustainability in mind. Different aspects of design for environmental sustainability strategies are discussed. One area of interest to the author is “green material,” which is one of the most important elements of design for environmental sustainability. Over the years, attempts have been made to appreciate, understand, and implement the concept of design for environmental sustainability, in the context of conceptual design as well as within the “green material” perspective. As proposed by experts, the use of renewable and biodegradable materials is one of the strategies of design for environmental sustainability, with biocomposites selected as candidate materials. Conceptual design activities for various biocomposite products are reviewed also.
