Abstract

To satisfy the requirement for multimedia applications over wireless mobile communication systems, the demand for efficient and reliable data transmission via wireless channels has grown rapidly. Bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding (BICM-ID) is a bandwidth efficient transmission scheme with good performance. The interleaver design is critical to the high performance of BICM-ID. The block interleaver is widely used in communication systems, but it has very poor performance when it is used in BICM-ID system. This paper presents a modified LRTB block interleaving scheme based on chaos, which has a larger normalized dispersion than the LRTB block interleaver. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed chaotic LRTB block interleaver exhibits great performance improvement compared with the LRTB block interleaver and is better than the traditional random interleaver generally used in BICM-ID.
