Abstract

Abstract Results are presented on the Rutherford scattering yield of 1 MeV protons in a 500 Å thick gold crystal. Experimental results obtained for planar channeling are in good agreement with the theoretical values of the depth Xm , and the half-width ψ1/2 that we have got from a calculation in which the effects of the thermal motion of lattice atoms and the effects of nuclear multiple scattering on the scattering yield are taken into account. The experimental Xm values obtained in numerous axes suggest that channeling effect on scattering yield in the axial case should be considered as a combination of planar effects. Calculations have been recently extended to the study of the comparative influence of thermal motion of lattice atoms and nuclear lifetime on the blocking dip of emerging charged particles emitted from a nuclear reaction.
