Abstract

The aim of this article is to compare the state of the art channel models proposed by Zimmermann and transmission line (TL) theory for narrowband power line communications (NB-PLC). The model proposed by Zimmermann is considered as statistical model that is based on multipath propagation characteristics of signal including impedance mismatch and number of branches present in low voltage (LV) network. On the other hand, TL theory based model is a deterministic model that involve to have an extensive knowledge and data of installed transmission lines and power network parameters. Moreover, frequency selectivity is introduced in the impedances. Verification of both models is done by comparing their transfer functions over NB-PLC frequency range 3-500 kHz.
