Abstract

This paper evaluates the performance of channel estimation combining with inter-carrier interference (ICI) cancellation for Long Term Evolution (LTE) downlink in high speed railway environment. Winner II channel model and the D2a propagation scenario are selected to represent the channel. We first introduce the existing channel estimation algorithms that can be used in this scenario. To improve the estimation performance, a new estimation algorithms based on original channel estimation method is proposed, which aims at improving estimation accuracy of reference signal (RS) location. Then the ICI cancellation based on the improved method is introduced. Finally, the performance of the estimation methods in terms of throughput and their Mean Squared Error (MSE) are confirmed by theoretical analysis and simulation results in a LTE downlink transmission system. Our findings demonstrate that the proposed estimation algorithm outperform the conventional ones and the residual ICI after ICI cancellation based on the new algorithm will cause very low MSE which is almost negligible.
