Abstract

As a typical application scheme of OWC (Optical Wireless Communication), VLC (Visible Light Communication) plays a more vital role in our daily life. It is expected to be used in the fields of vehicle communication, 6G network, underwater wireless communication, etc. Although so many achievements on VLC have been obtained, researchers still have some obstacles to overcome. Channel capacity as an important quota to evaluate communication quality deserves researchers to study further. This paper not only discusses the basic theory and combines the results of some recent studies on visible light channel capacity, but also highlights a promising application prospect and advantages over other communication methods, including RF (radio frequency), and fiber optical. This paper draws a conclusion that VLC is mainly used in indoor and short-distance communication. There is still a long way to apply VLC in long-distance communication and overcome the fading problem.
