Abstract

The past 20 years have seen exciting scientific and technological advances that have transformed how we study biology and have impacted aspects of everyday life including how we see ourselves as individuals, and as part of society. Conversations about family trees around the kitchen table can now include discussions about sequencing genomes. We can gather a variety of data regarding health and behavior, and we are, more so than ever before, connected with the global community and often able to obtain information in real-time.
