Abstract

The way air medical transport services are structured today is not as predictable as it was when the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) was initiated in 1990. Ten years ago at many hospital-based helicopter services, the hospital contracted for aviation services from a vendor and named its program Life Flight or Air Care or MedEvac, etc. Fixed-wing services were offered by private aviation providers based at local airports. A transport service usually had one owner, one name, and one mission.
