Abstract

Over the past Jew decades there has been considerable interest in neighborhood preservation as an important approach for dealing with urban decline. This research note examines the attention given to preservation under two major federal programs and shows how it got started and nurtured under one, urban renewal, and how it matured to a major strategy under another, CDBG. Some problems and limitations of the approach, as practiced under CDBG, are also covered.
