Abstract
Objective To explore the changes and clinical significance of serum concentration of tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF- α ),leukotriene B4 (LTB4) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD). Methods Sputum and serum samples were collected and prepared from 28 patients with AECOPD before and after two weeks therapy and 26 normal controls.Sputum and serum levels of TNF- α and LTB4 were detected by ELISA. Results The levels of serum TNF- α and LTB4 in AECOPD with acute exacerbation were significantly higher than those after therapy (P<0.05) and in control group(P<0.01). The levels of serum - α and LTB4 in AECOPD after therapy were significantly higher than those in control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Dynamic observation of the changes of serum - α and LTB4 provides an important means in evaluating the prognosis of patients with AECOPD.
