Abstract

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the time of chicken transport from farmers to slaughterhouses on changes in body temperature and body weight of broiler chickens. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a 3 x 2 factorial pattern (3 times of transportation and 2 times of measurement). The first factor is the time of transportation, consisting of morning, afternoon, and evening. The second factor is the time of measurement, namely before and after transportation. The study used 300 female broiler chickens aged 32-37 days. Each transport time was repeated 10 times (every day for 10 days), meaning in each replication 10 broilers were used. Variables observed were ambient temperature, body temperature and body weight before and after transportation. Measurement time and transportation time were found to affect body temperature (P<0.05), but did not affect body weight (P>0.05). There was no correlation between measurement time and transportation time (P>0.05). It is recommended to transport chickens from the farmer to the slaughterhouse in the morning.
