Abstract

The Soviet people's effective demand is increasing as a result of the steady increase in their real income. Under socialism this demand is satisfied chiefly through state and cooperative retail trade. Hence the data on the growth and pattern of state and cooperative trade are among the most important indicators of the well-being of the working people.
