Abstract

Experimental observations were made concerning the changes in the free surface texture of zinc-coated steel sheets and uncoated sheets during successive tensile, Erichsen and bending tests. The micro-structural changes were recorded using a video recorder and a stylus instrument. As a result, changes in the surface roughness with strain, deformation mode and properties of the coating are demonstrated. The mechanisms of cracking and delamination of the coatings on steel are also considered and quantitative approaches are proposed.
