Abstract

Abstract Changes in distribution of milk in the cow's udder modify the shape of the milk withdrawal curve during machine milking. The influence of different periods of delay between pre-milking stimulus and the start of milking, and the effect on the pressure-volume relationship in the milk cistern, are discussed. A simple technique for estimating duration of the milk ejection response is described. Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre, Department of Agriculture, Private Bag, Hamilton.
