Abstract

1. 1. The fatty acid composition of short-neck clams ( Ruditapes philippinarum A & R) was compared in animals (a) fed on industrial yeast, (b) fed on natural phytoplankton, (c) after starvation. 2. 2. Marked deficiencies in polyunsaturated fatty acids were found in the case of a yeast diet as well as after starvation. 3. 3. Metabolic changes are discussed.
