Abstract
Replication of a survey of faculty attitudes toward the role and governance of a university shows substantial change in attitudes after more than two years of confrontation and reorganization on the campus. The R-factor analysis of data from the second survey indicates there was substantial restructuring of faculty perceptions of the dimensions of the issues. Where the previous study indicated separate administration and faculty control functions, the second survey found the two dimensions had collapsed into a single administration-faculty control dimension. The structure of the other dimensions had also been reorganized. The Q-factor analysis isolated one opinion type that was essentially unchanged from the earlier study and seems to represent a stereotyped professor. Two other opinion patterns had undergone considerable change. Multiple regression analysis indicates that the predominant demographic characteristics associated with the opinion types were political orientation, academic area, and age.
