Abstract

The Review presents the published data on electrophysiological changes in cardiac cells observed in the course of embryogenesis, in particular the changes in the density of ion currents of different types. Use of the technique, which allows experimenters to obtain cardiomyocytes differentiatedin vitro from the embryonic stem cells, in the studies of expression of the ion channels is discussed; these studies become possible in early embryogenesis for two weeks after the appearance of the first signs of spontaneous contractions of cardiomyocytes. The role of certain ion channels involved in formation and stabilization of electrical activity of cardiomyocytes during the prenatal period of heart development is analyzed.
