Abstract

The variations in content and compositions of Artemisia sieberi essential oil (EO) were examined at different phonological stages, i.e., vegetative, floral budding, full flowering and post flowering. The EOs of air-dried samples were extracted by hydrodistillation. The yield of EOs (w/w %) were 1.65, 1.85, 2.29 and 2.71% at vegetative, floral budding, full flowering and post flowering stages, respectively. The EOs were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. A total of 56, 65, 65, and 68 components were identified and quantified at the above mentioned stages, respectively. The EO content significantly (P < 0.05) increased after the flowering stage. Six components including 1,8-cineole (21.1-24%), camphor (11.8-18.3%), α-thujone (8-13%), p-cymene (3-5.4%), terpineol (3-4.9%) and camphene (2.7-4%) were the major oil constituents in all phenological stages.
