Abstract

1. 1. The changes in carbon flow through glycolysis and the pentose phosphate pathway concomitant with the induction of nitrate assimilation in the apical cells of pea roots have been studied. 2. 2. Calculations of carbon flux suggest that there is an ample provision of NADH to meet the needs of those nitrate assimilation enzymes coupled to that co-factor, but that the supply of NADPH only just matches the extra demand created by the induction of nitrate assimilation
