Abstract

Sixteen semen samples, collected from purebred beagles over a period of 12 months, were diluted, frozen and thawed. In an attempt to monitor any changes occurring to the acrosome during processing, smears made at various stages of the handling procedure were stained with Spermac stain and examined under 1000X magnification. Most acrosomal damage appeared to occur during the freeze/thaw processes. Sperm motility did not correlate well with acrosomal integrity.
