Abstract
It is numerically found that the fractal dimension of basin boundaries in a two-dimensional cubic map increases after the homoclinic and heteroclinic tangencies. This suggests that every basin-boundary metamorphosis is caused by a homoclinic or a heteroclinic intersection of the basin boundary (stable manifold) with unstable manifolds.
