Abstract

The mitochondrial pattern of an isolated animal egg half agrees with that of a larva animalized by iodosobenzoic acid, while the pattern of an isolated vegetal half is consistent with that of a lithium vegetalized larva. Implantation of micromeres into an animal half shifts the pattern into that of a normal or a vegetalized larva. The strength of the effect is a function of the number of micromeres implanted.
