Abstract

As paleontologists and geologists, we love change. Without it, we would have nothing to measure or describe in the geologic record. This Spotlight will bring you up to date with changes to PALAIOS since we began our tenure as coeditors in April 2006. This issue, the first of 2007, marks a number of changes to the journal. We have changed from publishing an issue bimonthly beginning in February of each year to publishing bimonthly beginning in January of each year. This was done in order to align PALAIOS more closely with the citation indices. As you can see, we have also redesigned the cover, and there is a new look to the table of contents and first page of all articles, including the Spotlight. All this change, we hope you will agree, is good. There have been some changes, however, that we at PALAIOS did not anticipate. As many of you know, our copy editor, Roger Kaesler, became very ill last spring and was unable to assume his duties for PALAIOS. John Southard, who also copy edits for our sister journal, the Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR), kindly agreed to step in until we could find a more permanent replacement. Thank you, John! With Roger unable to work, the Paleontological Institute, our parent organization, was left without a director. Bruce Lieberman stepped in as interim director, and the search for a new director moved forward quickly. We appreciate that Bruce put up with us while we unpacked numerous boxes and set up camp in the Institute. Thank you, Bruce! After an international search, Dr. Paul Selden was appointed as the new director of the Paleontological Institute and will be beginning his duties about the time this issue is published.
