Abstract

An analysis of the change in the phase composition of corundum-mullite-cordierite refractories cooled according to various procedures after heat treatment for 2 h at temperatures of 1673, 1723, and 1773 K, which correspond to the subsolidus region of the diagram of MgO−Al2O3−SiO2 with different combinations of coexisting phases. The possibility of transforming the phase composition of such materials by reversible solid-phase reactions is shown. The reasons for and distinctive features of the deviations of the actual phase composition from the theoretical one are considered. Theoretical and experimental data on the high-alumina region of the phase diagram of MgO−Al2O3−SiO2 are generalized.
