Abstract

The frequency shifts of the optical vibrations of a crystal due to the presence of a polarizable impurity atom are calculated by using a semiclassical approach. The temperature dependent energy of a bound polaron is described in terms of these frequency shifts. The impurity lattice interaction is treated by considering the lattice polarization as discrete.
