Abstract

The possibility of the spin orientation change of satellites by an oblique impact is discussed. A projectile having an adequate momentum can remove the spin orientation of some of the of the spin-orbit-locked satellites from the Cassini state without catastrophic disruption. For most satellites the occurrence of the spin state change from Cassini state 2 to 1 is easier than the change from 1 to 2.
