Abstract

A earth gravity field recovery from CHAMP kinematic orbits using energy conservation approach is presented. A method combining the Newton's numerical differential formula and the remove-restore procedure for determining kinematic velocities is developed. Three earth gravity field models with 50 degree and order are recovered using CHAMP kinematic orbits provided by Technical University of Munich (TUM). The comparisons of degree variance and geoid difference with GRIM5-C1, EIGEN-1S and EIGEN-2 indicate that the recovered models yield a better fit to EIGEN-2. The assessments using Arctic gravity anomalies data show that these models have nearly the same quality of EIGEN-1S and EIGEN-2, and perform better than GRIM5-C1.
