Abstract

Sedimentary iron ores in the Tajmiste district, Yugoslavia, are interbedded with Devonian? gray-black phyllites, consist mainly of chamosite oolites in a matrix of iron silicate and siderite, and represent a chemical precipitate accumulated in relatively quiet water and a reducing environment. The iron may have been supplied by submarine springs or volcanic exhalations. Variations in thickness and discontinuity of the ore-bearing beds may have been caused by differential movement in the phyllites which were subjected to low-angle shearing prior to extensive block faulting in the district.
