Abstract

We carried out a preliminary survey to examine what popular beliefs and claims are most readily accepted among our college students and to compare these responses with the results of similar questionnaires taken in other pans of the country. Ratings for 70 statements dealing with topics in science and pseudoscience were obtained from 330 UH-Hilo college students and 40 UH-Hilo college faculty over a 5-year period. The results are compared to similar statements from four other surveys.
