Abstract

Non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy following coronary artery bypass grafting is a very rare entity with unknown pathogenesis. Postoperative vision loss due to non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy is associated with risk factors such as hypotension (in patients with previous hypertension), dyslipidemia, anemia and diabetes mellitus. The combination of anemia and hypotension in patients with known hypertension may in- crease the risk of non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy. We present a case with non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy following coronary artery bypass grafting. We believe that this devastating cause of total vision loss occurring after coronary artery bypass grafting can be prevented only by awareness of the risk factors.
