Abstract

This article argues that there are serious challenges to be faced in the repatriation and preservation of tangible heritage-township art. (Potential) problems faced by Ifa Lethu Foundation in the collection and preservation of artworks are sketched, and the Fort Hare experience in the repatriation of the African National Congress (ANC) archival material is examined as a case study. Although the repatriation of ANC material was a relatively successful initiative, the repatriation of black artwork presents greater challenges.
