Abstract
One hundred years ago, in the early 1920s, Banting and Best discovered insulin. Insulin was first used to treat a dog with pancreas removed. The dog had a temporary drop in high blood sugar after receiving insulin. The scientists administered insulin to a 14-year-old boy with severe diabetes later.
