Abstract

The paper briefly summarizes the Norwegian governmental view regarding regional and global fisheries problems. In particular, the need for international co-operation, especially in international waters and distant-waters interests, is discussed. The findings of the 1993 UN Conference on the conservation and management of straddling stocks are outlined, particularly with the example of the Barents Sea stocks.
