Abstract

Two years ago, the author predicted that the creation of three mixed genre television channels was a reality in South Africa. She also expressed certain misgivings about the capacity of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to forge either a corporate or a national identity, given the constitutional and political pressures under which it operates in a changing South African society.
