Abstract

In the present era of digitization, technology has opened up new avenues in teaching and learning. Academics have been reshaped and transformed with the use of digital platforms for online instruction and student learning across the globe. Usage of technology is making Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) rethink and redesign the teaching and learning processes. The chapter attempts to understand the challenges faced by faculty and students in online teaching and learning across HEIs in Oman. The study is done by administering a structured questionnaire given to students and faculty in HEIs across Oman to understand and explore the challenges and issues related to faculty and their changing role in online teaching; issues related to learner's expectations, skill, and readiness in online learning; as well as issues related to content and instruction in HEIs in Oman. The practical implications would be discussed at the end of the chapter, and suggestions have been put forward to improve the online teaching and learning experience.
