Abstract

To the Editor: Lower limb skin and soft-tissue infection (LLSSTI) is common in clinical practice, raising a double issue. Overdiagnosis of LLSSTI can result in antibiotic overuse (with annual $195 to 515 millions of avoidable health care spending) and resistance.1 Underdiagnosis of severe LLSSTI, that is necrotizing soft-tissue infections (NSTIs), has serious prognostic consequences.2 Teledermatology (TD) could be useful in the management of LLSSTI.3,4 In their survey-based study, Korman et al showed excellent agreement on diagnosis and management between teledermatologists and in-person dermatologists, although the operator's experience was a key factor.
