Abstract

The field of cancer pain management is rapidly changing to parallel the advances in pain medicine. Improved perioperative care has brought about a change in pain management to a proactive state rather than our historical reactive position. While pain specialists will aim to optimize management, more frequently anesthesiologists and perioperative physicians will implement strategies in pain prevention, treat the difficult pain patient early, and be faced with newer and more complicated interventions. We will review common challenges and areas of advancement in the realm of acute cancer care.
