Abstract

Some people use their skills and talents to achieve employment, others put them to the service of the community. Sharon LeFevre adds a dimension by putting her skills as an actress and playwright to the task of challenging the way mental distress is framed in psychiatric discourse, and through performance and discussion relating the experience of self‐harm and hearing voices to the discourse of every day life. Some of her work is the result of a collaboration with Phil Thomas, a consultant psychiatrist and senior lecturer in psychological medicine at Bradford, who also acts with her in live performances.
