Abstract

The genus Brackenridgea belongs to the family Ochnaceae and consists of approximately 12 species distributed from Africa to the Fiji Islands. Brackenridgea zanguebarica has been used as a traditional African medicine for the treatment of wounds, conjunctivitis and anemia. Various chalcone dimers have been reported from this family. These dimers are of interest due to the inconsistent isomers that result from chalcone framework. Herein, we report the isolation of two new dimeric (1 and 2) and one new tetrameric chalcones (3) along with four known compounds. Their structures were elucidated through spectroscopic methods, including NMR experiments and MS spectra analyses.
