Abstract

The reaction of a trimethoxychalcone with acetic anhydride and sulfuric acid gives a deep red triarylindenopyrylium cation (as its hydrogen sulfate salt) the structure of which is established by X-ray crystallography and 1H NMR spectroscopy.
