Chair’s Introduction

Abstract

I would like to introduce Professor Joy Schaverien, PhD (GB), Professor Cathy Hyland Moon (USA) and Doctor Sheridan Linnell PhD (AUS). These panel participants come from three different continents, each with its own history of art therapy and state of theoretical and clinical development. The presenters will be putting their long-standing work in the field in context with their professional identity, which is embedded in each one’s culture, social, political and therapeutic traditions. They will address their theoretical approaches, all grounded in art and the art-making process, psychoanalytic traditions and influences from postmodern perspectives such as feminist, critical, liberation, disability studies, and socially engaged art.
