Abstract

The effect of anti β adrenoceptor IgG from chagasic sera upon Ca 2+-ATPase and Na ++K +-ATPase of myocardial membrane was studied. Chagasic IgG stimulated Ca 2+-ATPase and inhibited Na ++K +-ATPase activities. Both enzymatic effects of the IgG could be prevented after β adrenoceptor blockade or after the absorption of chagasic IgG with turkey red blood cells. Isoproterenol acted similarly. These results provide information concerning to the biochemical mechanism, by which an antibody, known to activate adenylate cyclase system coupled to cardiac β adrenoceptor, produces stimulation of myocardial contractility.
