Abstract

The adsorption of methanol on clean and ultra-thin layer copper-deposited α-Fe2O3(0001) surfaces was studied using HREELS. Intact molecular adsorption is found for both types of surface. HREELS measurements made following anneals to various temperatures indicate that monolayer methanol desorbs from α-Fe2O3(0001) between 140 and 180K. No evidence was found for the formation of species such as formate on the composite Cu/α-Fe2O3(0001) surface.
