Abstract

In this paper, we developed a CFD simulation of the non-premixed combustion provided by two hydrogen-propane/air coaxial jets in a 3D cylindrical combustion chamber. Numerical simulations were performed using the commercial CFD code Fluent in order to find the aero-thermo-chemical characteristics in the burner: the axial velocity, the temperature and the mass fraction of carbon monoxide CO. To study this kind of phenomenon, a special treatment of the mathematical model was used and two PDF and LES calculation models have been chosen. The objective of this work is to reduce the emission of carbon monoxide CO, which is considered a toxic gas for the environment. Hydrogen is considered a clean fuel with no carbon monoxide emissions in the products of combustion compared to propane. In addition, the velocity of the hydrogen gas in the upper flame was compared to the speed of propane gas.
