Abstract
Presented is a key paper in the development of effective SOFC models. The paper employed a fully three-dimensional, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) STAR-CD model on a planar, five-cell, solid oxide fuel cell. Geometry and experimental data were provided by the Institute of Nuclear Energy Research (INER), Taiwan. The objective of this study was to validate the CFD results based on measurements taken at INER. The model was validated experimentally and used to predict current density distribution, fuel and oxidant utilization, flow and temperature distribution, and heat transfer information.
