Abstract
The lecture addresses unsteady flow prediction from the perspective of the aeroelastic blade designer with emphasis on flutter and resonant response. The subjects discussed are the aeroelastic design problem, current state of technology, and future needs. Comparisons are given of 2D/3D, inviscid/viscous, linear/nonlinear, and single blade row/multi-stage analysis. It is concluded that unsteady CFD analyses are now contributing significantly to engine design. The CFD emphasis is changing from code development to understanding aeroelastic phenomena and design optimization. The next frontier is multistage analysis.
