Abstract

CEUTA AND MELILLA IN THE SCHENGEN AREA: CURRENT SITUATION AND FUTURE PROSPECTSCeuta and Melilla’s membership of the Schengen area is clearly influenced by the border regime in both cities, derived from international treaties dating back to the XIXth century, as well as by the particularities of their border crossings. Moreover, the visa-free regime with the bordering Moroccan regions, Nador and Tetouan, should favour the socio-economic development of the area to the benefit of both countries.
