Abstract

The Cs and O coadsorption on Ru(001) was studied by high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS) and UV photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). The Cs monolayer exhibits a √3 structure in LEED. The coadsorption of oxygen was studied at 95 and 220 K. At small oxygen doses a broad band of CsO vibrations is found at 25 ± 3 meV and a change of the LEED pattern into a split (2 × 2). At higher oxygen coverage evidence for dioxygen species and the RuO vibration is observed.
