Abstract
Cervical pregnancy was suspected at 9 weeks gestation. It was decided not to interfere. Ultrasound examination incorrectly suggested a complete placenta previa during the second trimester. Life-threatening bleeding necessitated cesarean section and hysterectomy at 30 weeks. Cervicoisthmic placental implantation was diagnosed. The course for mother and child was uneventful. The surgical procedures are described and discussed. Definite differentiation between cervicoisthmic placental implantation and complete placenta previa during the second trimester with vaginal ultrasound is emphasized. (J GYNECOL SURG 7:239, 1991)
